Katayoon is The Lido’s September artist-in-residence.

Through video and music, Katayoon’s residency seeks to evoke the nostalgia and aesthetic of the bootleg VHS market in Iran during the late ‘90s-mid ‘00s, which resulted from a network of low budget studios in Los Angeles operated by members of the Iranian diaspora broadcasting music videos, live talk shows, news and special programming back to Iran.

SCREENING | Telstar 12 | Video collage dedicated to Telstar 12, the name of the satellite used to broadcast illegal shows from the United States and Canada into Iran.

MUSIC VIDEO FILMING | Katayoon will be filming a live music video in keeping with the distinct style of bootleg VHS. All welcome to participate!

ARTIST TALK & VIDEO | Katayoon will speak to this project and her research, and will be showing music videos from the peak of the bootleg satellite show era.
