Volunteer Opportunity: SAD Events Coordinator

Help bring the magic to life at SAD Mag events!

SAD Magazine is looking for an organized, detail-loving human to help us plan and pull off our signature events. As our SAD Events Coordinator, you’ll work alongside our Events & Engagement Manager to support the execution of everything from launch parties and workshops to community pop-ups and beyond.

This is a 6 month volunteer position (with the possibility of extension) that requires a time commitment of approximately 3–6 hours per week. Hours may increase slightly during the lead-up to major events like our bi-annual magazine launches. You’ll be reporting to the Events & Engagement Manager and working closely with other volunteer coordinators to ensure the SAD event calendar runs smoothly and joyfully.

This is a great role for someone looking to build experience in planning events, community programming, and behind-the-scenes magic-making.

What you’ll do:

  • Help plan, organize, and execute SAD events - virtual and in-person

  • Coordinate event logistics like timelines, checklists, RSVPs, and supplies

  • Communicate with performers, hosts, vendors, and volunteers to make sure everyone’s in the loop

  • Assist with event promotion - think writing blurbs, updating calendars, and supporting social content

  • Support on event days with setup and teardown, guest check-in, tech, and ensuring events run smoothly

  • Gather post-event feedback and help us dream up how to make the next one even better

  • Collaborate with our SADvocate Volunteer Coordinator to keep programming cohesive and community-focused

You’re a great fit if you:

  • Love a good to-do list and thrive on staying organized

  • Are a clear, proactive communicator who isn’t afraid to send that follow-up email

  • Get excited about creating events that are inclusive, welcoming, and fun

  • Have some experience with event planning or coordination (can be formal or informal!)

  • Are comfortable with occasional physical tasks, like lifting boxes or event supplies (up to 20 lbs)

  • Are reliable, team-minded, and not afraid to roll up your sleeves day-of

  • Have a valid BC driver’s license and are down to do the occasional supply run or venue visit (big plus, but not required)

What’s in it for you:

  • Real experience in arts event coordination, programming, and production

  • A behind-the-scenes look at how SAD Mag events come together

  • A chance to shape how we show up in the arts community and create memorable experiences

  • The joy of working with a creative, kind, and slightly chaotic team of humans

  • A glowing reference from SAD Magazine

To apply:

Please fill out this Google form by May 11th, 2025. Send us a little something about who you are, why this role excites you, and any relevant experience (school, life, work – we love community spirit and enthusiasm just as much as a formal resumé). Bonus points if you include your dream event theme or setup.

Volunteer Opportunity: SADvocate Coordinator

Help lead the charge on all things volunteer at SAD Mag!

SAD Magazine is looking for a community-minded, super-organized human to take the reins of our volunteer program. As our SADvocate Coordinator, you’ll be the heart and hype behind our new team of incredible volunteers – helping them stay engaged, trained, and excited to be part of the SAD magic.

This is a 6 month volunteer position (with the possibility of extension) that requires a time commitment of approximately 3–6 hours per week. During the lead-up to our bi-annual magazine launch parties, hours may increase slightly (think more emails, more scheduling, more glitter—metaphorically speaking). You’ll be reporting to the Events & Engagement Manager and working closely with our Events Coordinator to ensure volunteers are supported and events run smoothly.

It’s a great opportunity for someone looking to gain hands-on experience in arts organizing, people management, event coordination, and community-building.

What you’ll do:

  • Manage the SADvocate volunteer application and onboarding process

  • Organize and run quarterly volunteer orientations

  • Coordinate volunteer schedules for tabling events, mailouts, poster runs, and special projects

  • Be the main point of contact for all things volunteer – keeping everyone informed, supported, and excited to be involved

  • Track volunteer participation and keep our records organized

  • Collaborate with SAD’s events team (Events & Engagement Manager and Events Coordinator) to forecast upcoming volunteer needs

  • Lead volunteer appreciation efforts – think shoutouts, perks, and occasional high-fives

You’re a great fit if you:

  • Love people, planning, and a well-colour-coded spreadsheet

  • Are a great communicator – clear, kind, and responsive

  • Are passionate about independent media, community arts, and creating inclusive spaces

  • Have some experience leading or coordinating others (doesn’t need to be formal!)

  • Are reliable, self-directed, and cool under pressure

  • Have a valid BC driver’s license and are comfortable doing the occasional supply run or event drop-off (this is a big plus, but not mandatory)

What’s in it for you:

  • Hands-on experience in community coordination, events, and arts admin

  • A front-row seat to SAD Mag’s programming, with opportunities to help shape the volunteer experience

  • The chance to work with a fun, weird, and passionate group of creatives

  • A meaningful way to contribute to Vancouver’s arts and culture scene

  • A glowing reference from SAD Magazine
