Vancouver’s naughtiest and nicest new holiday tradition is an over-the-top festive extravaganza featuring Vancouver’s best drag, burlesque, circus, and variety performers! The bow on top of this holiday present is that the show will be headlined by the one and only Jimbo — who you may know as the notorious favourite from Season 1 of Canada’s Drag Race.
Other performances include pole arts from Lynx Chase from Virago Nation, Vancouver’s all-Indigenous burlesque troupe; The Darlings, a multidisciplinary, non-binary drag performance collective; burlesque from Ariel Helvetica and Layna Emerald; a cyr wheel act from Matt the Human; a musical performance from East Vancouver favourite Shirley Gnome; and so many more!
Helvetica Productions is a new production company owned by Ariel Helvetica. She has shimmied and twirled her way around the globe, having performed at some of the top burlesque shows in Europe, Canada, and the U.S., including strip-teasing at The Burlesque Hall of Fame. Ariel has had the pleasure of teaching hundreds of students and brings her expertise to her studio, the Vancouver Burlesque Company, where she is the Assistant Director. In 2018, Ariel was voted #25 in 21st Century Burlesque Magazines “most influential performers” and #3 in Canada. Ariel has combined her burlesque prowess and love of developing the performing arts scene in Vancouver into Helvetica Productions, which is dedicated to showcasing a diversity of established and up-and-coming burlesque, drag, circus, and variety performers — as well as bringing joy back to the holiday season after a difficult 1.5 years of the pandemic.
The event will have two showings on December 18th at the Rio Theatre on Commercial Drive, both of which have opportunities to purchase VIP meet & greet tickets to meet Jimbo and the rest of the cast.
