Volunteer Opportunity: Grant writer
/SAD Magazine is looking for an organized, detail-loving and art-appreciating human to join our team as a Volunteer Grant Writer. In this role, you'll identify and apply for grants that support our mission of uplifting local, emerging creatives.
We're looking for someone who knows the arts and nonprofit grant world, can tell a compelling story and can quickly organize grant details to find the best fit and meet all requirements and deadlines.
This is a 6-month volunteer position (with the possibility of extension) that requires a time commitment of approximately 3–6 hours per week, depending on grant deadlines. You’ll have the support of our editor-in-chief and other team members throughout the process.
What you’ll do:
Research, identify and evaluate grant opportunities that align with SAD Magazine’s values, voice and work.
Write, edit and submit compelling grant proposals while collaborating with our team to gather necessary information and documentation.
Track submissions, follow-ups and wins (!!!) in a tidy and transparent way.
Keep the team in the loop with short updates on progress and potential opportunities.
You’re a fit if you have:
Have experience writing successful grants — bonus points if it’s for nonprofits, arts orgs or publishing.
Know your way around Canadian grant funding, especially in Vancouver’s arts/media space.
Excellent written communication skills and ability to explain ideas clearly and persuasively.
Self-motivated, organized, and able to meet deadlines independently.
Passion for SAD Magazine’s mission
What’s in it for you:
Real-world experience in arts and media fundraising.
The opportunity to make a meaningful impact on SAD’s future.
A behind-the-scenes look at how SAD Magazine operates
The joy of working with a creative, kind and slightly chaotic team of humans
A glowing reference from SAD Magazine
