MOOD SWING (APRIL 9, 2026)

Seek community, even when you are scared.

work by liang wang, part of the upcoming “unspoken realms” exhibit at beaumont studios.

That’s one of the many resonant lessons a personified land offers in playwright and composer Corey Payette’s new musical On Native Land. While ticket prices fall outside the “cheap and cheerful” bracket we usually spotlight, the show more than earns its worth through the breadth of stories it holds. From a lawyer navigating a legal system designed to oppress her people, to a pop star wrestling with identity and expectation, this show captures the complexities of Indigenous life today. Payette is, frankly, a genius—and if you have the chance (or the means) to see his work, run, don’t walk.

If money is tight, or musical theatre isn’t your thing, I’ve rounded up five other free or affordable events to turn your frown upside down.
