Coming from eclipse season, where we faced the challenge of intense feelings and making hard choices to let go of people, beliefs, and things that no longer serve us, September gives us the opportunity to sit with our decisions and deepen the framework of who we want to be.

At the beginning of the month, Mars in Cancer squares Saturn in Aries and Mercury in Virgo sextiles Mars for a few days. If you are running a new, improved program of yourself, Virgo season tells you to double down and show up. What does your new life look like exactly and what do you invest in? There are opportunities to deepen our psyches and assess any power struggles where we are pushing past our capacity or where we can put more effort. This is also a favourable time to grow more empathy and clearly communicate when it comes to public and private matters.

It’s time to get into the nitty gritty of planning your life. This includes budgeting, getting your health checks, and making sure your spaces are clean of any clutter. In comparison to the chaotic summer months where most of life was happening to us, September reminds us of what we can control – how we respond to life. You are more capable than you think, and your actions don’t need to be grandiose to prove that.

September 10 brings big energy shifts with a New Moon in Virgo and two planetary ingresses. Venus enters Scorpio, which is always intense. People with this Venus placement are the type of people who are into merging souls and creating blood pacts; the type of people to stay in toxic situations because the love is deeper than the pain or saying, “beauty is pain.” Venus is in detriment in Scorpio because someone might not even consider that things can be better because their obsession with a fixed ideal deludes them. This energy pours into the collective, bringing themes of obsession, jealousy, and vulnerability that others might not be ready for. However, it also invites dedication to our art and relationships which can mean pushing through a creative block and adopting a mindset of “it doesn’t need to be perfect, it just needs to be done.”

On this same day, there is a New Moon in Virgo ruled by Mercury in Libra. Sweetness and reason are sprinkled into our communication. People become more level-headed, making conversations smoother; however, there is greater possibility of people pleasing and indecisiveness.

The Sun moves into Libra on September 22. Now that you’ve secured a routine and foundation in Virgo season, our focus shifts from our internal processing and self-care to our role in other people’s lives. Who are you as a son, daughter, student, coworker, partner? Is there an equal give and take in your relationships? The 30 days of the Sun being in Libra invites us to assess how we can give more to our community. This can look like scheduling a virtual catch-up with your long-distance friend, donating clothes or food to your local shelter ahead of the winter season, and spending more time with your pets.

On the 26th, there is a Full Moon in Aries which highlights the final moments of Mars in Cancer before moving into Leo the next day, bringing much needed fire to our drive. While Mars was in Cancer, you were focused on identifying any shortcomings and lazing into cooler weather. Now that you’ve settled in, the energy shifts to renewed confidence, allowing you to tackle more difficult tasks that you might have put aside for the month.

On the last day of September, Mercury enters Scorpio on the 30th, pouring focus into deeper psychoanalysis of ourselves and others, our finances and the taboo subjects that colder weather brings like the meaning of life. While Mercury in Virgo and Libra are more externally focused, you can expect to keep more to yourself as privacy and strategic communication will be prioritized.

Overall, September will be grounding, yet fast and eventful because Mercury transits through three zodiac signs and contacts many planets. It would be beneficial to stay flexible in September. Try to get all your appointments, important meetings and tedious tasks done before Mercury enters Libra on the 10th, but let yourself do nothing if needed. You can also note anything that happens when Mercury transits Libra and Scorpio as these events will come up when Mercury goes retrograde into these signs starting at the end of October. Tasks that require more vitality will need more discipline, since it’s a bit like trying to run through the mud with Mars in Cancer for most of the month, but Virgo energy is reasonable, so the message is simple: stay disciplined but be realistic and listen to your body.
